These Terms & Conditions govern membership of the Kentucky Firearms Club (“the Club”, “KFC”). By applying for and maintaining membership, individuals agree to comply with these Terms & Conditions, the Club Constitution, all Club Policies, and the lawful instructions of Range Officers (ROs) and Committee members.
1. Eligibility & Membership Categories
1.1 Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be aged 14 or above (juniors require parental consent).
- Be legally permitted to possess and use firearms in the UK.
- Not be prohibited under Section 21 of the Firearms Act.
- Complete the Club’s application and assessment process.
1.2 Membership Categories
- Probationary Member
- Full Member
- Junior Member (under 18, with parent/guardian consent)
No social‑only or associate categories exist.
1.3 Legal Status
Members must promptly inform the Club of any change affecting eligibility (e.g., police investigations, Section 21 issues, medical concerns affecting safe firearms use).
2. Application, Assessment & Probation
2.1 Initial Assessment
Applicants must complete an Initial Assessment Day to demonstrate basic safety awareness and suitability.
2.2 Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Membership form
- Section 21 declaration
- ID and proof of address
- Sponsor information (where required)
- Parental consent (juniors)
2.3 Police Suitability Checks
Where applicable, the Club may request a YES/NO police suitability check before probation begins.
2.4 Probation
Minimum probation:
- 3 months, and
- 3 supervised range sessions
Probationers must always be under appropriate supervision.
2.5 Progression to Full Membership
Full membership requires:
- Positive supervision reports
- Safe and consistent conduct
- Completion of mandatory training
- Committee approval
The Club may extend probation or refuse membership.
3. Member Responsibilities
Members must:
- Comply with the Club Constitution and all Club Policies, including Safety, Conduct, Firearms Use, Safeguarding, and Data Protection Policies.
- Follow all RO and Committee instructions immediately.
- Act safely, respectfully and professionally at all times.
- Maintain up‑to‑date contact details, including FAC/SGC information.
- Attend at least 3 Club range days per membership year.
- Engage cooperatively in safety, safeguarding, and welfare processes.
- Report any unsafe behaviour or incident.
Failure to meet responsibilities may result in disciplinary action.
4. Safety Requirements
4.1 Core Safety Rules
Members agree to follow:
- The Four Golden Rules
- All range‑specific rules
- NSC Bisley Regulations when shooting at Bisley
- KFC Firearms & Safety Policies
4.2 RO Authority
RO decisions are final on range days. Failure to comply may result in removal from the range and possible disciplinary action.
4.3 Condition of Members
Members must not participate if impaired by alcohol, drugs, illness, fatigue, or any condition that compromises safety.
4.4 PPE
Eye and ear protection must be worn as directed.
5. Firearms & Ammunition Use
5.1 Member‑Owned Firearms
Members may use firearms held on their FAC, including:
- Section 1 rifles
- Section 1 shotguns
- LBP/LBR (where range‑permitted)
- Muzzle‑loaders
- Other lawful FAC‑listed firearms
Members must abide by all licensing requirements.
5.2 Club‑Owned Firearms
The Club maintains small‑bore rifles, full‑bore rifles and Section 2 shotguns. These are:
- Issued only on authorised range days
- Controlled by the Armourer or an authorised Committee Member
- Not permitted off‑site
- Available only to authorised members, guests, and probationers under supervision
5.3 Ammunition Restrictions
Under Club rules and NSC regulations, the following are prohibited:
- Tracer
- Incendiary
- Armour‑piercing / AP‑I
- Depleted uranium
- Explosive/igniferous ammunition
Shotgun slug and wad restrictions apply at Bisley.
5.4 Practical Shooting
Members participating in practical shooting agree to:
- Follow UKPSA‑aligned safety rules
- Adhere to 180° rules/fault lines where applicable
- Follow RO commands precisely
- Comply with stage‑specific safety rules
Participation is subject to suitability and RO approval.
6. Guests & Visitors
6.1 Guest Days
Guest Days are limited to 12 per year and must comply with the Home Office rules.
6.2 Guest Supervision
Guests must:
- Complete a Section 21 declaration
- Receive a full safety briefing
- Be supervised 1:1 by a competent member or RO
Members are responsible for their guests’ conduct.
7. Attendance & Club Records
7.1 Attendance Logs
As required for Home Office Approved Clubs, attendance must be recorded for:
- Full members
- Probationers
- Guests (including 1:1 supervision)
7.2 Minimum Attendance Requirement
Members must attend at least 3 Club‑organised range days per membership year to retain full membership.
7.3 SCC Eligibility
Shooter Certification Cards (SCCs) will only be issued where:
- The member has fired the relevant firearm category at Club activities during the previous membership year, and
- The Club has an auditable attendance record showing this.
8. Disciplinary Procedure
The Club may take disciplinary action for:
- Unsafe conduct
- Breach of T&Cs or Club Policies
- Harassment, discrimination, bullying or inappropriate behaviour
- Failure to follow RO or Committee instructions
- Misuse of firearms, ammunition or equipment
- Dishonesty or breach of trust
- Repeated failure to meet attendance requirements
Sanctions may include:
- Warning
- Suspension from activities
- Restrictions on firearms use
- Removal of probationary or full membership
- Permanent expulsion (as per the Constitution)
Members have a right to be heard and to appeal decisions in line with Club policy.
9. Data Protection
The Club processes personal data in accordance with the:
- KFC Privacy & Data Protection Policy
- UK GDPR
- Data Protection Act 2018
Members agree to the use of their personal data for Club administration, safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
10. Safeguarding
Members must adhere to the Club’s Safeguarding Policy. Key obligations include:
- Protecting juniors and vulnerable persons
- Reporting concerns to the Welfare Officer
- Following supervision ratios for juniors
- Complying with safeguarding instructions at all venues
11. Complaints
Members may raise:
- Informal concerns with Committee
- Formal grievances via the Complaints Procedure
12. Fees & Payments
Membership fees must be paid on time. Non‑payment may result in suspension or removal from membership.
Range fees, guest fees and match fees must be paid as required.
13. Termination of Membership
Membership may end through:
- Voluntary resignation
- Non‑renewal or non‑payment
- Failure to meet T&Cs
- Expulsion via Committee procedures
- Ineligibility under law (e.g., Section 21 prohibition)
Former members must return all Club property immediately.
14. Amendments
The Committee may amend these Terms & Conditions as required. Members will be notified of changes.
15. Acceptance
By joining or renewing membership of KFC, the member acknowledges that they:
- Have read and understood these Terms & Conditions
- Agree to comply fully with them
- Understand that non‑compliance may result in disciplinary action
